“Welcome to our wedding!” – Of course, you’d like to greet your wedding guests personally. With a large wedding party, unfortunately, it won’t be possible to do that for every guest right away. But you can leave that part to the welcome sign! To make sure it has the desired effect, there are a few things to keep in mind.

This article covers the following topics:

Welcome Sign: Wood, Easel, or Acrylic?

A beautiful welcome sign makes guests feel that they are expected and warmly welcomed. A beautifully designed and well-placed sign creates a lovely atmosphere the moment guests arrive. Now the question is: wood, acrylic, or perhaps a stretcher frame? You can really let your creativity run wild when choosing materials—there are so many ways to design a wedding welcome sign.

When it comes to wooden welcome signs, pay close attention to the material. In other words: Choose the right wood! It should be sturdy and light enough for transport. If possible, the surface should be smooth, as this will allow you or your calligrapher to achieve even lettering. Pine or spruce wood is ideal for lettering because these woods are slightly softer than other types. If you’d rather have your wooden sign engraved, walnut, cherry, and boxwood are the ideal choices. Be careful when placing the sign outdoors: The calligraphy pens, the wood, and any accessories used should, of course, be weather-resistant!

You can easily have a high-quality acrylic sign made through one of these wedding service providers —they’ll make sure the font, colors, and font size are legible. When choosing an acrylic wedding sign, you also need to consider how it will be mounted and where it will be placed in the room: Do you want to hang your sign or attach it with adhesive? When placing the acrylic sign, make sure the welcome sign is set against a plain background; otherwise, the transparent sign with text will be barely legible. Another mistake we unfortunately see often: the floral decorations intrude into the space in front of the welcome sign, making it hard to read. Of course, the surrounding decorations are beautiful and stylish, but the welcome sign should always be the first thing Blickfang you see at the wedding venue.

A large easel displaying a stretched canvas with a welcome message is always a beautiful sight. Possible alternatives to the classic canvas include an aluminum Dibond frame or a lightweight Forex panel. Whether it’s the maid of honor, the bride, or the couple’s best friends—whoever is in charge of the welcome sign and is considering an easel option should choose a fairly large easel. Why? The welcome sign should be placed at eye level for the guests. In addition, there are usually quite a few decorations draped around it, so the welcome sign can easily fade into the background if the easel and the painting are too small.

Wedding Signs as a Wayfinding System

Wedding signs can make things easier for you as a couple, for your wedding planner, or for your witnesses, because: The welcome sign greets the guests, the seating chart makes it clear where everyone is sitting, and the small signs on the tables give guests a glimpse of the menu. This means there’s less need for explanations during the celebration!

You might also want to consider whether you’d like to have an “unplugged wedding” —an informative sign is perfect for that, too. You often see cute signs like this at candy bars or in the wedding’s chill-out area.
