But even within the country’s borders, there are many wonderful lakes that are perfect for a wedding—or at least part of one. Gentle waves, deep blue waters, an idyllic lakeside promenade, and piers that are perfect for a wedding photo shoot—it’s easy to start dreaming. But a lakeside wedding doesn’t have to remain just a dream…

When Your Favorite Lake Calls

From Lake Constance to Lake Attersee and Lake Millstättersee all the way to Lake Neusiedl—in Austria, nearly every one of the numerous lakes is perfect for a wedding ceremony, the entire wedding celebration, or at least for stunning wedding photos. If you have a clear favorite lake but haven’t yet found a suitable wedding venue on its shore, don’t be discouraged—keep looking in the surrounding area. That way, you can still visit the lake, for example, during your engagement photo shoot, or exchange your personal wedding vows right on the shore. There’s always a way to incorporate your favorite spot into your wedding.

That Special Magic

The atmosphere by the water is hard to beat, and—regardless of the season or weather—it’s always a highlight for your wedding guests, for you, and for your wedding photographers: Whether it’s sparkling water in the sunshine or gentle waves under overcast skies—there’s something magical and enchanting about the water. As evening falls, candlelight and garlands create a very romantic atmosphere by the cool water—a perfect spot for deep conversations, spontaneous dancing, and joyful celebrations, whether in small or large groups.

Wedding Venues by the Water

Very few couples planning to get married actually own a house by the lake that they can use for their own wedding. The dream of a wedding celebration by the water can still come true—after all, Austria’s lakes are home to many lakeside hotels, villas, and event venues that offer the option of a (civil) wedding ceremony. Be sure to inquire early enough at your desired venue, though, as lakeside locations are often hotspots for vacationers and guests.
