Frequently Asked Questions About the Raffael Müller Trio

A Conversation with the Raffael Müller Trio

How long have you been making music?
We all started playing music at a very young age. Usually, people start learning an instrument around the age of 6 or 7. That’s true for all of us, too. Ever since then, there’s been nothing we love more than making music.

How did you all meet?
Raffi and Tom have known each otherfor over ten years. They’ve played together in several bands. Interestingly, Tom is actually a drummer and Raffi an electric bassist. Driven by their love of Gypsy Swing, they both put their old instruments aside and dedicated themselves entirely to Gypsy Swing. After a while, it became clear that an authentic sound wasn’t possible without a double bass. After making a few phone calls, they finally found Vincent from Dornbirn, who jumped on board immediately with full enthusiasm. The latest addition to the group is Giuseppe. He supports us on the soprano saxophone when we’re performing as a quartet. Raffi and Giuseppe are old school friends and took their high school graduation exams together. Old love never rusts… ;)

How did you get into Gypsy Swing?
It definitely happened in a roundabout way. When he was 14, Raffi was hooked on a video game called “Mafia.” The plot basically revolved around the New York underworld of the 1930s. The background music was mostly Gypsy Swing by Django Reinhardt. He really liked the music even back then, but he never thought about playing it himself. It wasn’t until four years ago, when he stumbled upon that old computer game by chance, that there was no turning back.

Why do you guys love playing at weddings so much?
It’s simple: making two people in love’s special day even sweeter with our music is just fun! At weddings, as a band, you’re always surrounded by people who are in a good mood. The atmosphere is always lively and very harmonious. A dream come true for us as a band!

What about you guys—any plans to get married?
Raffi: I’ve been in a relationship for nine years, so it won’t be too much longer. My dream wedding will definitely be outdoors. Good food and a great Gypsy Swing trio are, of course, a must ;)
Tom: I’ve been in a relationship for eleven years and have been married since 2016. It was one of the most beautiful days of my life, with everything that goes with it… the civil ceremony, the church, family, and lots of friends, my bands, who provided the musical entertainment for the evening, and an atmosphere that’s second to none in Donauwörth.
Vince: I can definitely imagine getting married one day. The most important thing for me would be to have all the people who matter to me there and for everything—including the planning—to go smoothly. After all, it’s all about enjoying a beautiful and relaxed day.
Giusi: This is how I picture it—on the beach with sand between my toes, the woman of my dreams in my arms, and of course my guys on guitars!
