Stop it, or your mom will plan the wedding!
Parents, siblings, friends—as soon as you get engaged, it turns out they’re all wedding planners and know exactly what your wedding should look like!
Stop! Of course that’s not true—you know better than anyone else how you want your wedding to be at eure Traumhochzeit . You know what should be at the top of your wedding checklist . And we’ll show you how to get help with wedding planning and organization without letting too many cooks spoil the proverbial broth.
This article covers the following topics:

Personalized Wedding Planning
First things first: You need to be clear about what you want. Only then can you start thinking about who can help you with what. For some guidance, we recommend reading our blog post on the first steps of wedding planning. That way, you’ll avoid the two biggest mistakes: setting your wedding date too soon, and on the other hand, putting it off—because there’s never really enough time for wedding preparations!
Once you’ve figured out the order of wedding planning from our blog post, it’s time to get down to business! You can start assigning tasks. If you have a wedding planner, she’ll take over from this point on, and all you’ll need to do is coordinate with her. That saves a lot of time and stress. But if you’re handling the planning yourself, you can now start thinking about:

Who has which qualities?
Does your mom bake the best rolls far and wide—and is she also a decorating whiz? Then let her take over the Agape. Tip: Don’t just have her bake pizza rolls and pretzel sticks—hand her the entire reception planning slot. That’ll free up your mind a lot! To be on the safe side, give your mother-in-law a checklist and check in with her every now and then to see what’s left on the to-do list or if she has any questions. Try not to come across as a boss—you’re a team, and you’re working in the name of love!
Who contacts the wedding vendors?
There are many things you can confidently delegate. Blowing up balloons, organizing face painting for the kids, making party favors, and planning the bride’s kidnapping—all these things are part of it. What you shouldn’t delegate: Contacting the vendors! You should handle communications with the registry office, venues, musicians, photographers, and others yourself. Only you know whether you prefer round tables to a large banquet table, or if you’d rather have gypsophila instead of a big bouquet of roses. Plus, there are personal service providers—like photographers, stylists, and wedding officiants—who should be a good fit for you as a couple. After all, it’s no use if the stylist creates the perfect hairstyle for your brother-in-law but your husband gets up from the barber’s chair looking unhappy.

Who's keeping track of the wedding checklist?
The enthusiastic bride or ambitious groom will probably answer right away: “Well, us!” But as wedding preparations get underway, it becomes clear pretty quickly that there are so many things to do, and it’s not that easy to keep track of everything. The best approach: Give a copy of your wedding checklist to your best man, and another copy to your maid of honor—grab the two of them and go out for a drink. While you’re there, discuss who will keep track of which parts of the checklist. Ask yourselves again: Who has which strengths, and who’s particularly good at what?
Wedding Planning: The Little Tasks
The witnesses and you, as the soon-to-be-married couple, usually take on the bigger parts of wedding planning. But what about all the little decisions and the smaller organizational details: Who’s going to order the wedding candle? And someone should test out the photo booth before we decide on a model. We actually wanted fireworks, and someone still needs to remember the gift table in the wedding hall… Yes, the little details shouldn’t be underestimated! So, enlist your friends, godparents, or grandparents to help with the smaller to-dos. Give everyone a small task so no one has too much on their plate. The important thing is that everything comes together through you, your maid of honor, or your wedding planner.
