Where to go on your honeymoon? Inspiration for your honeymoon
When your wedding chauffeur pulls up in the flower-decorated Opel Olympia and you wave goodbye to your guests one last time, it’s time for the next highlight of your wedding celebration: the honeymoon is coming up! But where should you go? We have a few ideas to inspire you:
This article covers the following topics:

The Classic: A Honeymoon Abroad
But where should you go? Mauritius, Zanzibar, or maybe the Maldives? The turquoise waters, overwater bungalows, and secluded beaches make these destinations the quintessential honeymoon spots. The allure of these dream destinations overseas has a magical pull on newlyweds.
The only catch: You’ll need to factor in an additional 4,000 euros for the honeymoon on top of your wedding budget. That can be a deal-breaker—but it doesn’t have to be. You should just decide in advance whether you want a classic honeymoon or if you’d be happy with a more affordable alternative.

The Trend Toward Staying Close to Home: Honeymoons in Europe
On a honeymoon in Europe, you don’t have to miss out on anything. The short travel time means more time together, and with lower travel costs, you can really treat yourselves once you’re there. But where in Europe is the best place to spend your honeymoon?
When you think of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca immediately comes to mind. But how about its little sister, Menorca, or Formentera? With their white sand beaches and turquoise waters, these peaceful islands are reminiscent of the Caribbean!
In Greece, Santorini is so popular with romantic travelers that the island can feel a bit overcrowded. Fortunately, there are other great destinations in the Cyclades, such as Naxos and Paros.
But a honeymoon doesn’t always have to be a beach vacation. Maybe an adventurous month-long InterRail trip through Europe or a cruise along the coast of Norway is just the right thing for you?
A honeymoon within Austria can be wonderful, too. We’ve summarized all the options available to you in a separate blog post: Honeymoon in Austria.
And then, of course, we can’t leave out this one: Paris! In the City of Love, you can spend hours cozying up in the wedding suite of a charming French hotel, eating croissants, and strolling down the Champs-Élysées. But cities in northern Italy, such as Venice or Verona, are also perfect for a romantic city honeymoon that doesn’t require a long trip.

Honeymoon at Home
As with every aspect of your wedding, the same goes for your honeymoon: Just because things are usually done a certain way doesn’t mean you have to do them that way. In other words, you don’t have to go anywhere at all—you can spend your honeymoon at home. It may also be that you don’t have any time for a trip right after the wedding—in that case, just make things really cozy and comfortable at home.
If you want, you can just make up for the trip together whenever it's more convenient for you. Just don't let it stress you out.

Bye-bye, everyday life!
Whether you decide on a honeymoon in Austria, Italy, France, or a dream destination in the Indian Ocean—you should start thinking about your honeymoon right at the beginning of your wedding planning. After all, the best deals and the most beautiful hotels are, unfortunately, often not last-minute offers.
And think about whether you want to start your honeymoon the very day after the wedding. Some people prefer to wait a week to spend some time at home and clean up the last remnants of the wedding celebration. We think you can always clean up after the honeymoon. But that’s just our opinion…
