On the Art of Speech – Denise Streng

Denise loves stories and enjoys talking. It’s the perfect combination for her job as a wedding speaker. She’s convinced: “Everyone has an exciting story to tell. To me, there are no boring people, no boring couples. You just have to ask the right questions, and you’ll get the information you need for a special wedding speech.”

This passionate wedding speaker loves nothing more than talking about people and their stories—how they met and what drives them crazy about each other (in the best possible way). She uncovers the little things that connect her couples and articulates feelings that they may never have truly put into words themselves.

Personal Wedding Speeches Full of Humor and Emotion

For Denise, it’s important that people be allowed to laugh during a non-religious wedding ceremony —loudly and heartily, if they like. But it’s also okay for things to go quiet when something has just been said that strikes a chord deep in the heart. The wedding officiant loves all these moments of a wedding ceremony. What she especially loves about her job: surprises! Those little moments when suddenly everyone is laughing and marveling—or surreptitiously wiping away a tear.

A Wedding Speech That Brings People Together

“A good wedding ceremony creates a moment when everyone is truly present—not just physically, but in spirit. Just there. Family, friends, the people you love most: Everyone is part of the story.” For Denise, that’s exactly what makes a wedding ceremony successful. To her, it feels like a shared sense of “us.” She wants to create moments like these for her couples—with their stories, their sense of humor, and all the unique qualities that make them who they are. And when, after the ceremony, the couple thinks, “Yes, that’s exactly who we are,” the officiant knows she’s done everything right.

Frequently Asked Questions About Redensweise – Denise Streng

What should couples know about you as a wedding officiant?

I take my work seriously, but I don’t always take myself quite so seriously. I like people, I’m curious, and I ask questions. And don’t worry: you don’t need to have a fully formed idea of what your wedding ceremony should look like during our first meeting. That’s what I’m here for. Together, we’ll figure out what’s right for you. It’s important to me that we get along well and that you don’t have to pretend to be someone else around me. You don’t have to be particularly romantic, nor do you have to be able to tell the perfect love story. You should just be yourselves.

What’s one thing that absolutely can’t be missing from a non-religious wedding ceremony?

To me, a wedding ceremony can be anything—except an event where you just sit there quietly and wait for it to be over. It should surprise, move, and make you laugh—and sometimes be completely different from what you’d expect. Above all, though, it should reflect the wedding couple. Not some arbitrary idea of what a wedding is supposed to look like, but the two people at the heart of it all.

What truth about weddings can we feel free to share?

I think the truth about weddings is that the bride and groom don’t have to be particularly romantic, wildly original, or incredibly eloquent to have a beautiful wedding ceremony. Not every couple has a story about how they met that’s straight out of a movie, and not everyone likes to put their deep feelings into words in front of an audience. Some people also find it a little strange to look deep into each other’s eyes in front of all their favorite people. That’s fine—it’s totally okay. I think you should celebrate your wedding in a way that’s true to who you are—without comparing yourselves to others and without feeling like you have to put on a show. There isn’t just one “right” way to get married. There’s your way!
